Dear God

This is really something.  I read through the first few pages.  People wonder why my generation and those younger are so distant from religion.  Read the damn posts.

Done?  Now holy bejesus.  Would you feel comfortable talking to a 60+ year old man who’s been seperated from society for his whole life about any of these topics?  The post about image/PR is a good one.  In our parents + years, things were slower.  One person could earn enough for a family, there was time to digest things.  Nowdays, everything is lightspeed, no time to do anything properly, everyone needs to work to stay afloat (even millionaires).  Who do you turn to?

Dear God is exactly WHY religion exists.  Church is not religion.  Asking questions to the nether, hoping to clear your head.  Settings your morals and your thoughts together to see clearer.  That’s what it’s about.

There is truth in pain.  There is growth.  Until you fall down, you never know what true strength you have.  Quite the read.

Tax Season

It’s here like snow on Easter.  Not needed or wanted!

Not too bad this year, contractor for only 3 months and the amount due is manageable.  Still, makes you wonder why we pay 40% in taxes.  I say 40, because on income tax it’s 30 then you have PST+GST on 80% of everything you buy.

Microtaxes are the way to go.  No loopholes.  Everytime money comes in or out of an account, charge them 0.05% of the total amount.  At the end of the year, you’d have paid 20% in taxes or so.  No one would owe at the end of the year.

GF Has Moved In

Of the multiple steps in a relationship, the “living together” phase, to me, is the most important and significant one.  It’s really the make or break part.  Marriage isn’t it, kids either.  You really learn to know and love someone once you live with them.  I have been semi living with her for the past, oh month I guess.  The move in date was confirmed last week but we knew it would happen before the end of the month.

Point?  Simple enough I guess.  I have a great dislike for moving.  I’ve done enough of it in the past, 90% of people are HIGHLY disorganized.  It happens in the rain most times (ugh…) and there’s a general lack of communication around where things go.  Honestly, it’s the type of job that needs foreman on both ends of the move to coordinate.  You let people decide on their own where stuff will go and it’s going to take hours longer than it should.

Move is complete.  90% of the stuff is unpacked.  Gave us the chance to do some spring cleaning and pass along about 5 bags of clothes and 3 boxes of double items.  That’s good.

Is it good that I have a live in partner?  See, before we both had our refuges.  Think about it.  Something goes wrong, you can go back to “your place” for solace.  Not that I ever really needed it, things just seem to run smooth as silk.  Still, the illusion of space is a powerful one.  Losing that is what I alluded to in the first place.  That’s why a lot of people freak out.  Small things become big things.  You can’t ever catch your breath.  It’s a lot to swallow in a short period of time.

Am I happy?  Yes, make no mistake about it.  I think this is a good step and I am a very lucky man to have found my lucky lady.  It’s yet to fully sink it (since I’m not the one that moved) but the fact that a major step of the relationship has passed has not passed unseen.  As I told the GF, I don’t think I’ll truly grasp it until we have a chance to celebrate it.  Share it with some friends and family as a true couple living together.

Yay me!

TED – Johnny Lee

Most have seen the 2nd part of this video.  The first part, wow… the technical and monetary implications are just mind blowing.  Think about it, schools across the world can have a multimedia board for 200$ instead of THOUSANDS.  All of the dev work in 5 months.  Mind blowing.

Things

First off, photos from the bday party are up.

Second, day 2 of P90X.  Did it with the GF.  Wow, I probably lost 2lbs of sweat alone.  It was much much harder than yesterday.  Just beats the living tar out of your system.  I took some pics for week1 and will take a new set each week to see how I do.  Now to get a scale and weigh myself.  Don’t know if I’ll be able to do this again tomorrow, seems to be Arms & Shoulders.  I can barely lift my arms, no idea how this will work tomorrow.

Tony Horton is a madman.

New Fitness Program

P90X

Well, sort of new.  I bought the thing last year and never got off my behind to try it out.  So last night, I gave the first DVD a shot – there are 12 total.  The first one, Chest and Back, is a simple enough workout, all push ups and pull downs.  57 minutes long.  First 4 and last 4 are warm ups, there are a few water breaks, breathers within.  It’s about 45seconds of set, 16 of them total.  Might not seem like much but when the guy on the screen says “I’m going to do 30” and by 8 I can barely move… ya.

As much as the workout is physical, it’s very mental.  Just like a normal workout really.  You need to feel it burn for the last 2-3 reps to get any benefit.  Lord, I was feeling the burn.  At the end, I couldn’t reach my shoulder and washing my hair was an excersice in frustration.  This morning, the bottom of my triceps are aching like a somebum.

Now, they want you go back and press play the next day on the next DVD.  Unless this other DVD is pure legs, ain’t no way I am going to be able to do another hour’s worht of work.  I’ll need a day or 2 of rest.

What makes this program different than just going to the gym?  Well for starters, it’s planned out daily and it’s an hour long.  Find me someone who spends 1 hour a day working on a single body target and I’ll show you a surfing body.  Most people who go to the gym, go for 1h to 1.5hrs and do an overall workout.  Let’s see them do 30 minutes of just push-ups and look at their arms in a few weeks.  Also, the X is for extreme (what, do I need a barb wire tatoo now?).  What it really means is that the program is about 2x longer than your standard workout.  I was done after 30m, I really was cooked.  Having to do it all over again really pushes you to the limit, to the point of feeling nauseous.  That’s a feeling I’ve only ever had in hockey up until last night.

Verdict so far is good.   They say you need a chin up bar but I have a gym set with a pull down, that works as well.  I needed about 2 liters of water.  I need a workout mat, I was sliding all over the place.  I already had free weights, so that helped.  The time constraint is the hardest part.  1 hour a day seems small but some days it’s huge.  I’ll also be trying it with the GF, see how that goes.  Let’s see how it turns out by the summer.
